Nigeria struggles with a blood shortage. Demand hits 1.8 to 2 million units yearly, but supply meets just 25 to 30 percent. The gap harms emergency care, sickle cell patients, surgeries, and mothers at risk from postpartum haemorrhage.

VCDF’s annual blood drive delivered laudable results. Held February 6 and 7, it drew partnerships from Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service, Nigerian Red Cross Society, and SEEPCO. 550 donors gave blood voluntarily. 35 percent were first timers, signalling wider reach.
Growth tracks back to 2022: with 98 donors, 147 in 2023, 268 in 2024, 341 in 2025, and 550 in 2026. The sum of 1,404 through the years. Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service awarded VCDF as Blood Donation Champion in 2025. The record set in 2026 earned VCDF recognition for the Highest Blood Donation done by one organization.
“I voluntarily donated because my wife has benefitted from blood donation when she lost so much blood during childbirth. I appreciate the practical guidance provided to blood donors to ensure safe and healthy donation practices.” … Noah
“I felt fulfilled after donating blood because I was encouraged by the right information, and guidelines. I appreciate the care I received which made my experience smooth and memorable as a first-time donor.” … Ismail
The 2026 Blood Donation Drive has shown that it is possible to break barriers, inspire action, and encourage consistent blood donation to save lives.
SEEPCO remains committed to enabling the best public-health outcomes through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. VCDF will consistently leverage SEEPCO’s support to drive positive social action for a healthier Nigeria.
